Peach Buckle

2 lbs thinly sliced peaches
1 Tbs lemon juice
3/4 Cup divided sugar
4 Tbs soft butter
1 tsp vanilla extract
1 lightly beaten egg
1 Cup flour
1/4 tsp salt
1 tsp baking powder
1/3 Cup milk
1/3 Cup sugar
1/3 Cup flour
1/4 Cup butter

Preheat oven to 375.  Peel peaches and thinly slice.  Toss with lemon juice and 1/4 C sugar.  Set aside.  Cream 4 T butter with remaining 1/2 C sugar and add vanilla extract and egg.  Blend well.  Sift together 1 C flour, salt, and baking powder.  Add dry ingredients alternately with milk to the creamed mixture, beating well after each addition.  Pour batter into greased 10 inch baking dish.   Spoon peaches over batter.

Combine 1/3 C sugar, 1/3 C flour and 1/4 C butter to form coarse crumbs and sprinkle over fruit.  Bake about 40 to 50 minutes or until top is golden brown.   Serve warm with sweetened whipped cream or ice cream as desired.
